Paradox

Sitting in my window Looking at the rain Pouring down on foreign roads And a dripping window pane   I see clouds for the sky There's no sign of the Sun Wonder where it lost its strength To cut through that thin cotton   For the barb that it throws, back In the land from where I hail Never lets the ball of cotton Render the sky so pale   I gently open the window Let the air caress me It gives me a cold shiver Right upto my knee   Then one morning I get up To rush to my class And find everything covered In a white blanket of glass   And I wonder...   Is the Sun weaving A blanket all year From that sky of cotton To keep the winters warm here?!

Land of Water

Walking on a land of water Drenched from head to toe I heard the water play some music In its orchestral flow. Falling on the dense leaves The shower tinkled down Puddles around, for me to clown Several muddy and brown. Language Preservation is a challenge that confronts almost every Indian today. English, being declared as a global language, catalysed the process of language degradation and extinction in a multilingual country like India. Education now has become synonymous to being able to read, write and speak English. People are choosing to study in a school or institution with English as the medium of instruction. As a consequence, the educated population tends to read and communicate in English even in their day to day life. Newspapers, media, and formal corporate written and vocal communication is in English. In this scenario are we losing our regional languages? Are we neglecting their importance and pushing them towards extinction? If yes, should we boycott the global language and resort to our national language Hindi?                It is not a new fact that many countries still use their native language as the medium of instruction and communication; France, Germany, China- to quote a few.
